Long Island International Teleport
Globecomm's Long Island International Teleport is the hub of our satellite and
terrestrial services network. The Teleport has multiple uplinks to multiple US
and international satellites.
Globecomm's teleport has been designed to achieve an uptime of 99.99%. To
accomplish this goal, all components in the network are fully redundant,
including all routers, encapsulators, modulators, converters, and amplifiers.
The redundant units are configured with automatic fail-over switching, so no
manual intervention is required in the case of a failure.

Terrestrial Connectivity
The Teleport has multiple types of connections to accommodate the many customer
networks it serves. These include connections to the AT&T Internet
backbone, the Globix Internet backbone, the Vyvx video network, the AT&T
Frame-Relay network, shared DS-3 connections to 60 Hudson Street for private
lines, and multiple private line circuits for individual customers.
Teleport Power System
Globecomm has a 225 kVA parallel redundant UPS providing 45 minutes of battery
back-up. Should either of the UPS modules fail, the other unit will assume the
entire load without interruption. The UPS is equipped with Power Vision, which
allows our NOC staff to monitor performance 24 X 7. The battery system is
backed up by two 500kVA standby generators with an automatic transfer switch.
If commercial power fails, the generator will automatically start and assume
the building load from the batteries.
Teleport Security
Globecomm's corporate headquarters – which is home to the Teleport, our Network
Operations center, and multiple custom co-location units - are monitored 24 X 7
by security cameras with time-lapse loop video recording and security
personnel. Monitoring and security includes all corporate offices, the
Operation Center, and co-location entrances.
Employees and authorized persons are all issued individual identification cards
that allow only authorized personal into specific areas of our secured
building. All entrances and exits to various secure zones are isolated by
automatic closing and locking mechanisms.
Network Operations, Teleport operations, co-location units, and all machine
rooms are also protected by an FM200 Gas Fire Suppression System that does not
use damaging water.
Network Security
Security for the Globecomm network is based on a multi-layer model. Safeguards
against denial-of-service attacks are in place at the network perimeter, and
specialized security policies are applied to different network branches
depending on the application (Internet, distance learning, etc.). A complete
security policy is also in place for all servers at the host level. Co-located
networks and networks dedicated to single customers are also equipped with
firewalls for additional customization of security.
All internal-use systems connect to the Internet through a firewall. The company
employs a comprehensive antivirus plan on all client and server machines and
all forms of electronic messaging. Periodic backup is performed on all critical
servers. These backups occur nightly and insure that these systems can be
restored to their previous state in the event of a catastrophic failure.
Authentication of users from outside the corporate network is implemented via an
application level login. SSL is used to encrypt all login information and data
flowing to and from the corporate web server from the outside.
All network equipment and servers are located in environmentally controlled,
physically secure locations with limited physical access. All IP backbone and
major transmission elements are fully redundant.
