Globecomm Systems Wireless Local Loop Access Systems are improved pre-engineered
designs that take advantage of SCDMA telephone transmission technology
originally developed for military communications. These systems provide a full
range of high-quality telephone and data services in areas where the wireline
telephone infrastructure is either overburdened, damaged or absent.
Telephone service providers can now have the rapid and easy expansion of their
telephone services anywhere in the world, in unwired markets, without the high
costs and logistical nightmares associated with obtaining rights of way and
easements, erecting hundreds or thousands of poles, stretching cables for miles
or digging miles of trenches. In addition, with Globecomm Systems Wireless
Local Loop Access Systems, there is none of the costly maintenance that is
required to protect all those miles of wireline infrastructure. Subscribers
quickly get the benefits of the full range of today's most modern telephone and
data services, without experiencing long delays and the high passed-down costs
associated with establishing new wireline service in rural and remote areas
anywhere in the world.
Globecomm Systems is one of the world's leading suppliers of satellite and
wireless communications systems and networks. We recognize that to configure
networks requires innovation in design, integration and implementation for the
solution to achieve maximum performance and economy. Such innovation is one of
our strengths. With our broad multi-disciplinary engineering and design
capabilities, we can integrate our Wireless Local Loop Access Systems into
networks that meet the needs of both telephone service providers and their
customers anywhere in the world.

You Can Rely On Globecomm Systems Network Design and
Implementation
:
SCDMA is the most efficient spread spectrum transmission available. It has
capabilities up to five times greater than conventional CDMA. Inherent 1:1
frequency re-use supports new cells as subscriber density increases.
:
Interface to the PSTN is through a full-function class 5 switch, which supports
multiple protocols such as V5.1, GGS and CAS with V5.2 soon to follow.
Call-forwarding, conferencing, call-waiting, billing, tolling, etc. are
available.
Enhanced Functions:
Multi-level priority calling is available for emergency applications to support
hospitals, fire, police, VIP services or other requirements.
Security:
Extensive fraud and theft prevention capabilities provide high security against
interception and physical theft.
Service:
Fax systems, modems, computers and standard telephone equipment, including pay
phones, are supported with data rates up to 64 kbs and ISDN. Internet access is
readily achieved via ISPs.
Value:
The concentration of subscribers readily achieved with this technology allows
the operator to deploy cost-effective, high quality services for high data
rates, fax traffic, leased services, ISDN and Internet access.
Equipment Summary
SU - Subscriber Unit:
A wall- or pole-mounted antenna with integrated electronics. Serves 1, 2, 4 or 8
telephone subscribers. Advanced services are available using the ISDN
Subscriber Unit (ISU) and the X.21 Subscriber Unit (XSU).
NTU - Network Terminal Unit:
Small, wall-mounted connection point for subscriber telephone wiring.
UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply:
Connects to subscriber's power source. Contains voltage regulators and emergency
backup battery providing an average of six hours talk time.
Microprocessor-controlled charging. Reports battery and AC status to the
Element Management System.
RBU - RADIO BASE UNIT:
The central equipment that services all subscribers within the coverage area.
NIU - Network Interface Unit:
Interfaces between radio elements and the Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN).
EMS - Element Management System:
PC- or workstation-based Operation, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning
(OAM & P) terminal.
