SatCell OVL

SatCell OVL provides a satellite-based overlay to an existing network that overcomes barriers to service expansion and the introduction of new features, while extending business continuity protection across the network.

Globecomm provides SatCell OVL customers with mobile base transceiver stations (BTS) with an integrated satellite antenna. These robust pre-engineered systems were developed by Globecomm to provide high reliability and exceptional voice quality under challenging physical conditions. They require only a power supply to become fully operational.

Smart Call Routing

Call routing software in each BTS connects all calls within the cell locally. Other calls may be routed terrestrially within the existing network or via satellite, but the call control data is routed via via low-cost, high-efficiency satellite mesh links to a dedicated overlay switch. Installed either at the carrier's facilities or Globecomm's Mobile Switching Center, the switch provides roaming and advanced network services without requiring change to the carrier's existing systems.

OSS and BSS Integration

Globecomm engineers integrate the dedicated switch into the carrier's own OSS and BSS to provide a transparent experience to both the carrier and its customers. As a bonus, SatCell OVL provides business continuity protection for existing base stations and backhaul networks wherever it is deployed.

Link Management for Maximum Efficiency

Once the satellite network is operational, Globecomm provides continuous management and optimization. Globecomm remotely analyzes utilization of the satellite circuits as traffic volumes and patterns change and keeps the network tuned for maximum performance. The cost of bandwidth is the single biggest factor in the recurring cost of carrying voice traffic by satellite, and Globecomm's expertise in IP, dynamic bandwidth sharing and higher-order modulation makes the difference between a profitable and unprofitable service.
